Elisha is 6!

My first born is 6.  And I turn 30 this coming year.  And I'm feelin old yall!

A few weeks ago we had a little party at a local swimming pool for this big boy.  And his dad gave him a pocket knife.  A pocket knife?!  Well, actually his Poppa sent it to him.  They sent it through fed-ex and it arrived on his birthday.  It was to get here in the morning but the truck broke down on the way.  Thankfully it arrived not long after we got home from the party.  Elisha had been asking for weeks, maybe months, for a pocket knife.  He saw his dad had one and he thought he was ready to be a big boy.  So this was a pretty big deal.  My first response was heck no.  As time went on, I was convinced.  Bud actually googled it and found other moms blogging about their six year olds getting a pocket knife on their birthday.  Really?!  Didn't know this was a thing for some but apparently so.  So it's been a good father/son bonding time in learning how to be responsible with a pocket knife.  He has a place he puts it when he isn't using it and has learned a few rules and why they're so important.  Here's my big boy in his new spiderman helmet and "cool" shoes he's wanted for a year.

I've always made their cakes and find the challenge fun here to have to get creative.  Elisha had in his mind how he wanted the cake and thankfully it was doable.  He wanted lego candles (that we brought from the states) with spiderman lego dude, blue writing and green sprinkles.  He wanted red too but I was out of red.  And for the inside to be blue and green.

We didn't come prepared with plates and forks so we used our hands.  And Claire happily dug in.

Last year I started asking the kids questions on their birthday.  Here's from last year:  http://huffmansinkenya.blogspot.com/2012/12/happy-5th-birthday-to-elisha_7.html1.
